Financial protection specialist Unum has launched a practical guide for employers to help attract and retain the best people.
Your Blueprint to a Caring Company aims to help employers make the case for a renewed focus on health and wellness at board level. Recent research by Unum revealed that 30% of employees said they would consider leaving their job if they didn’t feel cared for by their employer.
The blueprint was created in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and establishes five business areas to work on. They are: leadership and line management; a caring culture; working practices; the employee benefits balance; and protecting your business for the future.
It advises using flexibility as a way of keeping staff engaged and productive, allowing them to manage work and personal life effectively.
Unum chief executive Peter O’Donnell said: “We are launching the Blueprint at a time when employees are reporting a worrying deterioration in their levels of well-being at work. To address this problem, health and wellness must become an absolutely key consideration at board level. People stay with companies that demonstrate they value, and care for, their employees.”
